Motivational Monday!

Wow, the last week of February! Is it spring yet? Slowly getting closer and closer…

Here’s a quote I found on Tumblr over the weekend and love:

Sometimes, we let the negatives affect us and get us down. We focus on them. Dwell on them. Stress out. I have definitely been guilty of this. But recently I’ve been feeling more like, “Whatever happens happens. It’s for the best.” I know things will work out the way they are supposed to. Plus, like the quote says, what would life be without a few negatives?? You will look back on most things and laugh, or view them as a learning experience.

Is there an experience that you can look back upon and realize you shouldn’t have stressed out so much about it?

Do you believe everything happens as it should? Or that we make our own destiny? I think I believe a little bit of both :)

Motivational Monday!

Another Monday…another week. I’m super excited for this week because it’s NYC Social Media Week! I’ll be going to 2 events on Thursday and possibly one on Tuesday. I’ll be writing more about this in a post later today.

Here’s today’s inspiration:

Have you ever been afraid to try something? Because you were afraid you wouldn’t be able to do it? That’s how I felt back in 2010 when I started thinking about trying a half-marathon. My mom and I were so scared, and did not think we’d be able to do it. Then we did…and then we committed to a full marathon-and were petrified! But now, 2 marathons later, we know it’s something we can conquer, and every year we work to improve our times and continue to run :)

Had we not decided to try a half-marathon, we would never know what we were capable of. Sometimes you may think, “I could never do that.” Stop and think, is that true? Or do you just think you couldn’t? I say, I could never do a triathlon, but now I’m considering trying a mini one and seeing where that goes.

Going along with this, I was watching the Olympics and heard the story of an athlete who wanted to go to the Olympics, so she started skiing 4 years ago. Never skied before! And is now in the Olympics. You really never know what you can accomplish.

Is there something you have said you would never do, but then ended up doing?

Is there something you think you can’t accomplish ever? Why?

Motivational Monday!

Hi all! Hope your weekend was great! I had a fun weekend that included throwing a surprise party/outing for Dan’s birthday…he was totally surprised and it was a blast.

So today’s quote reflects a topic of conversation I was having with friends over the weekend:

Money isn’t everything. It’s easy to get into a cycle of feeling like you need more money, or need to buy certain things…and some days I certainly feel that way. I feel like I should be making more or down on myself that I don’t, but I love this quote.

Right now, I have everything I could want in my life. Money isn’t the only thing that matters, and whenever I feel a bit down about it, I reflect on the things I am thankful for:

  • A roof over my head
  • My family
  • Plentiful food
  • …and much more

Do you ever get into moods where you wish you made more money?

What are you thankful for that money can’t buy?

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday! The college I work at is closed today due to snow, so I’ll be relaxing by the fire all day.

Today’s quote is from Kim Kaupe, who is the founder of Zinepak. ZinePak creates custom interactive publications for targeted superfans of music, movies, sports, events, and brands. I had the pleasure of meeting with her a month or so ago, and she and her co-founder really motivated me to keep working at my dream of creating my own business :)

Anyway, she always posts great quotes on Twitter! Here’s one that was at the top of my feed today when I signed in:

I plan on making this a good, and productive, day by getting as much work as I can done. Sadly, I doubt I will make it to the gym because of the snow. This is my street right now:

How do you plan on making this the best day ever? What about the best week ever? It’s a new month! Clean slate… :)

Motivational Monday!

Can you believe it’s already the last week of January? I’m okay with that-because I would really like it to be spring already!

So I started listening to this song over the summer, and I loved the lyrics. It’s called Wings by Little Mix. Recently, I’ve been listening to it a lot again. Do you ever go through a phase where you listen to a song, get sick of it, then months later are playing it on repeat again?

Anyway, I love the lyrics and thought it would be great for today!

Sometimes it’s easy to get down on yourself if someone says something negative to you or doesn’t understand something you’re doing (working out, starting a business, leaving a career, etc). I listen to this song when I’m feeling that way and am immediate like, “Yeah, I can do this! Screw the haters!” :) It’s also just a really upbeat song that will definitely have you dancing around in your car.

Have you ever felt like that before? Do you have a song you listen to as a pick me up? Let me know so I can download it!

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday! Hopefully extra happy Monday because you have off work today?

Today’s quote is inspirational and humorous…we could all use a little Monday humor sometimes!

Be happy today! Even if you woke up feeling stressed, tired, worried…try to change your perception and be happy. Some days I wake up feeling cranky, but need to remind myself of how great it is to be waking up, and have another day.

I saw this quote somewhere, and now of course can’t find it, but it was basically about this guy who would circle one day each month in his calendar, and right “Best day ever” on it. When that day came, he would live the day trying to fulfill “best day ever.” I thought it was cute and clever-a good way to not let life get in the way of being happy, at least once a month.

How did you wake up feeling today?

Do you have off work? What will you do with your free day?

Motivational Monday!

Another new week! I’m back at work today after 3 weeks off since I work at a college. As much as I love sleeping however late I want, it’ll be good to have some structure back.

Anyway, I found this motivating quote on one of my favorite runner’s Instagrams (@meretherunner14):

This really resonated with me because sometimes I worry that I’m not doing the same things others my age are doing. I am trying out some things because it is the perfect time for ME to do so. Others may not approve or understand, but I need to remember this quote when I doubt myself.

Don’t write your story according to how others are living their life. You don’t know their situation, if they are happy or not, or what their own goals are. Follow your own dreams and ignore what others may say!

Have you ever pursued something and someone else wasn’t supportive? How did you handle that situation?

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday! It’s pretty gross where I am at (rain, will turn to ice later and a high of 5). How about where you are?

I have been seeing so many people on Instagram getting after their goals despite bad weather. Whether that’s running outside, or going to the gym, you inspire me! Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you have to take a hiatus from your goals. It’s cold outside, but I love all of you who don’t let that stop you.

I also applaud those who are working out in their own homes. Maybe you don’t have a gym membership, or just don’t feel like driving in the freezing weather, but you are still dedicated enough to get it done. That’s what I’m about to do actually…a quick HIIT workout in my living room :)

How have you been staying healthy this winter? What’s your favorite way to exercise?

Motivational Monday!

9 days until Christmas…wow!

Recently, I’ve been enjoying getting back into the gym, and lifting heavy. I’ll post my routine and update soon. It’s been nice to have a break from running. In 4 weeks, my strength has really improved…it actually improved in just 1 week back. Though I was VERY sore for a few days ;)

This is why I decided to chose this quote for today:

More recently, women have been starting to understand that lifting heavy is beneficial, and that you won’t get bulky or manly. I wrote a whole post about that as one of my first blog posts actually!

I used to be one of those people who thought higher reps with light weights was the only way to go. While high reps still has it’s place in a training program, challenging yourself with heavier weights is what will really garner results.

If you’re a runner, I think this is especially important during the off season! I’m looking at this as my off season, and lifting in order to strengthen my legs and core. During the training season, strength training sometimes falls to the wayside, or you don’t have time for a 1 hour session since you’re already running for an hour more. The off season is the time to really dig in.

Do you like lifting heavy things?

What’s your favorite lifting exercise? I’d have to say either bench press or pull-ups because they’re so challenging that when I actually accomplish something I feel awesome!

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone who experienced the snow storm moving across the country is staying safe…and for those of your in warmer states…I hate you ;)

Here’s today’s quote:

I saw this quote on a friend’s Facebook originally and loved it. So often we worry about what has happened in the past, or what we need to get done tomorrow or in the coming weeks. We stress out about it, perhaps take that stress out on loved ones, when there is no need to.

We can’t change the past or predict the future. I’ve been telling myself this often recently. I worry about the future, but believe everything will work out the best it can. I try not to stress, and am thankful for the support of my family and friends. That’s what really matters.

Today is a new day, and a new week…take it one day at a time. Just as marathoners tell each other before a race to “take it 1 mile at a time” – we should have the same view in life :)

Do you stress or worry a lot? How do you de-stress?

What’s something you’re looking forward to in the near future?
