Motivational Monday!

I had such a relaxing weekend and am ready to tackle this upcoming week. Last week, I mentioned being unhappy with myself. I had lost motivation to run and eat right. But I’m working on getting back on track. This week, my mom and I start a 5K training plan to get faster, and this weekend we also started a nutrition plan which I’ll be reviewing at the end of the month.

In terms of the weekend, I ran my worst 5K ever…but I still had fun! It was a hot race since it started at 12:15, and a hilly course. I actually almost backed out of it because my mom wasn’t around to run or watch the race. But I went anyway and despite a disappointing time, it felt good to get out there and run again.

I also relaxed by a lake with my best friend this weekend. Sometimes all we need is some girl talk :)

Monday: Chest/back

Tuesday: Hill workout

Wednesday: Leg day

Thursday: Easy run

Friday: Off

Saturday: Easy run

Sunday: Long-ish run

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday! Even though I’m not feeling my best today, I’m excited for a new week…and that this weekend is MDW :)

I had a great weekend with Dan. We took a spontaneous trip down to DC Saturday morning. We ate lunch in Georgetown, walked around the White House and then caught the Mets game down there. It was so much fun.

So because of this trip I didn’t get in my longer run this weekend but I did get in quality workouts last week. I also ran for 45 min on the treadmill Friday! That’s big for me because I hate the treadmill ;)

Anyway, here is a quote I found that I thought was perfect

Let’s not dread Mondays… let’s be excited for them! Here’s my plan for the week:

Monday : chest and back lifting
Tuesday : 10×400 track workout
Wednesday: leg workout
Thursday: easy run
Friday: tempo run
Saturday: off
Sunday: long run

Now I’ll be the first to say that those weekend workouts may not happen or need to be changed because of the holiday but we’ll see.

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend/Mother’s Day weekend. Mine was very relaxing and I wasn’t ready for this morning, but oh well, time to conquer the week.

I wanted to switch things up with my Motivational Monday posts. I usually post an inspirational quote (because who doesn’t like inspirational quotes), but I want to start adding my weekly goals in terms of workouts and what I want to accomplish. And I’d love for you all to leave comments telling me what workouts you plan on doing this week as well!

Here’s my planned schedule…though we all know sometimes things change ;)

Monday: Chest and back lifting

Tuesday: Speed workout (3 miles)

Wednesday: Off

Thursday: Easy 45 min. run

Friday: Easy 45 min. run

Saturday: Long walk or cross train

Sunday: Long run (60 minutes)

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday!

The weekend went by so fast. Dan and I headed down to southern New Jersey for my old college roommate’s wedding on Saturday – which was beautiful! We had a great time despite the fact that he was in a lot of pain from having bruised ribs…all from playing football at a BBQ with co-workers. We were in the ER Friday night but thankfully everything is okay, and we went just mainly as a precaution to make sure he didn’t break a rib.

But we made it to the wedding and even though he was in pain he managed to dance with me for a little bit! :)

elon-musk-quoteThis can relate to so many things in life. How often are we told that something is impossible? Or made to feel like our aspirations are merely dreams? But Elon Musk is right. If something is important enough, go after it. Do everything you can to achieve that goal, even if it’s something that won’t be achieved for years.

For me (and my mom), that is currently a Boston Qualifying time. We know that it’s far off…but we still are going to run a couple half marathons and another marathon this year and work on slowly chipping away time.

As Nike says, just do it.

Motivational Monday!

So happy it will be in the mid 70s today! Love that it is finally getting consistently warm. Hopefully it stays that way next week when my mom and I will be in Boston to watch the marathon! Anyone running or will be there too?

How often do we let other people’s comments and opinions get to us? It actually happened to me a few times this weekend and I had to talk myself out of it. It sucks and it’s hard not to care, but at the end of the day, you’re doing what is best for you, or going after things that you want…no need to have to justify that to anyone!

Motivational Monday!

Happy Monday! I feel like this weekend flew by. I ran my first 5K of the season on Saturday and it was awesome! Race Recap coming on Tuesday :)

Random – but I just heard the news reminding us April Fools is tomorrow. Do you guys prank your friends? Maybe I’ll think of something for my brother…

Anyway, finally this WHOLE week will be in the 60s. Is spring finally here?? Today isn’t a motivational quote per se, but it’s a quote reminding us of all the great things about spring.

What is your favorite season? Mine are spring and fall. I love cooler weather as opposed to the heat of summer. Any of you love winter??

Motivational Monday!

I feel like I have said this a million times, but how is it possible that it was 60 yesterday and this week we may get snow…??!? Come on spring….

Anyway, I was looking through Tumblr for a good quote for today. If you ever want some inspiration, look up “inspirational quotes” or something related and you’ll find a lot of great stuff. I love Tumblr in general for discovering funny things, news, GIFs, etc. Here’s the quote I found:

I read it and it immediately got me thinking. I mean, I think no matter what…even if you followed all of your dreams and gut instincts, you’d always regret something or wish you had done something else, BUT I like the message here. Pursue your goals and see what happens. You might regret it, or it may not work out, but it’s better to try. I think it would be scary to see “the person you could have become.”

Even now I think back to when I was a teenage and how I thought my life would be by now…and it’s totally not! Sometimes it is disappointing to think about but it also makes me want to work harder to get to where I want to be, so that when I’m 45 I’m not looking back to now and remembering how I wanted to accomplish X,Y,Z. Did that make sense? I feel like I just started rambling… :-P

What did you think you would accomplish by now when you were a teen? It’s not necessarily a bad thing if you haven’t done those things! Some of those desires were totally unrealistic :)

Motivational Monday!

It’s a great way to view things. Sometimes we stew about things or get worked up, and in the end, it turns out it wasn’t AS big of a deal as we made it out to be. Stress can have a lot of health impacts (perhaps another post?), so instead focus on letting go of anger or stress, and try to focus on the good in your life instead!

What stress coping mechanisms do you use? I usually try to tell myself that there is nothing I can do to change a certain situation, so I should stop worrying about it and letting it affect me. How about you?

Motivational Monday!

Yay Monday! Another week! Part of me isn’t a huge fan of Mondays, but part of me likes the thought of a whole new week to get s*%t done ;)

I’ve been thinking about how I need to get back to running. I went for a run with my dad on Saturday (only 1.5 miles) and felt great. He said he’d like to train for a 5K with me, so we will be starting now that it’s getting warmer and lighter out in the evenings.

My running goals are to PR in the 5K and half marathon this year. I wanted to run a half marathon on April 27, but that’s not happening. I have barely been running and it’s not realistic. It kind of made me feel down about my running, and how I lost basically everything I worked up to for the NYC Marathon, which is why I liked this quote I found:

Despite being out of shape with running, I really want to gain my fitness back. Yes, it sucks that 3 miles is tough but I will do what I can. I want to start building a base, and then do a solid 5K training plan. Plus, I’m planning on running a half-marathon this July in Paraguay! I also think all of the strength training I’ve been doing will help with speed – I just hit my squat PR on Saturday!!

So we’ll see how it goes…I know I’ve written about wanting to get back to running, but it really has been difficult with the weather. Now that it’s warm, I can’t wait to get back out there. I just didn’t feel the need to force myself to run outside when I didn’t have a concrete goal in mind.

Motivational Monday!

Finally, it’s March! I wonder if spring will come anytime soon…

I hope you all had a great weekend! I was down in Atlantic City for my best friend’s birthday and it was so much fun.

We went to Dusk, a club in Caesar’s Palace, and danced the night away with our BFs :)

Anyway, here is a quote I found for today’s motivational Monday:

How true is that? I catch myself complaining sometimes and then tell myself that if there is nothing I can do to change a situation, then I need to just move on. Tomorrow is a new day, and a new day to make things happen. Forget about yesterday.
