Another month gone. I can’t believe it is June! In 3.5 weeks I’ll be heading to my native country of Paraguay, and then Rio De Janeiro for the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Sadly, we didn’t get any tickets though through the lottery =(

Health/Fitness Links To Get You Through The Day *Thanksgiving Edition*

It’s almost Thanksgiving!! What are your plans? Are you as excited to stuff your face as I am? Hey, I also plan on going to the gym today, tomorrow and on Black Friday (does shopping count as exercise too?).

Here are some Thanksgiving related tips and info for you!

I hope you were able to draw some ideas from these helpful links. Again, I think it’s perfectly fine to indulge, just try to workout the day before, of, or after. If you can’t, then just don’t go crazy with the mashed potatoes and stuffing. One day will not make or break you and your success thus far. Don’t be too hard on yourself this Thanksgiving!

She’s totally right…once you wean yourself off of sugary things, like cookies, sweets, and even adding sugar into your coffee, you will be surprised at how your body adapts. When I have a coffee with sugar now, it tastes TOO sweet. Try weaning yourself off the sugar!
  • How to Warm Up Before Running in Cold Weather (Fit Sugar) – Running outside in the winter can be tough. AND it’s especially important to warm up properly before heading out. Make sure you do!
  • 10 Tips to Maximize Your Morning Run (Fit Bottomed Girls) – This doesn’t have to be just for runners. If you want to wake up and hit the gym, these tips serve you well too. When I want to (try) to wake up and workout, I usually sleep in my workout clothes…and still fail to get out of bed :)

I found some really good stuff this week! Let’s get right to it…

  • How to grocery shop to lose weight – I found these tips on a new blog I’m following, Fitness Wayne. These are great tips to remember when you go grocery shopping. Main thing I’d follow: Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, that’s where the healthy stuff is!
  • Healthy tailgating tips – Fall = going to Rutgers football games and tailgating with friends. We all have our favorite team and have our school pride. But don’t let tailgating derail your efforts!
  • 5 ways to eat sweet potatoes – Like sweet potatoes? Here are 5  variations for ya! I still have to try making some sweet potato fries, I hear they’re great!
  • Total body tabata home workout – Another great workout by Blonde Ponytail. I’m all about at-home, minimal equipment workouts!
  • “Therapy Thursday: Shin splints” – A blog post by another blogger I just started following! Steph, author of The Friendly Runner, writes about the woes of shin splints and how to fix them. As a sufferer of shin splints, I loved this post and am happy to say I do all of these =) Maybe not consistently…but that’s another story.

Health/Fitness Links to Get You Through the Day

I apologize that this post wasn’t up this morning…it’s been a hectic week! But, here are your weekly, informational links, because I know there are times you need a break from work and just want to browse the internet ;)

  • Lean Legs Interval Workout: This workout is brought to you by fitness blogger Jess of Blonde Ponytail. This is a great lower body, interval workout that will no doubt get you sweating. I fully plan on trying this out on one of my circuit training days. This is actually her second “lean legs workout,” here is part 1.
  • 3 Moves for Flat Abs by Halloween: While I can’t promise that you will have flat abs by Halloween (since many other factors besides doing ab exercises go into that), I can tell you that these are great core exercises. I do all of these myself when I do my core workouts. I LOVE plank. One of the best exercises out there. If you’re not already regularly doing plank, do it.
  • Rethink Your Drink: Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte: mmmm pumpkin spice lattes. Always a fall favorite. But there are ways to enjoy pumpkin spice without all that sugar! This link gives you some other options. I personally get a Cafe Americano, and ask for 1 pump of the pumpkin spice syrup, then top it off with a sprinkle of nutmeg. Half the calories, half the sugar.
  • Creamy Kale and Apple Soup: I just found this blog, Cara’s Cravings, and plan on exploring it fully. I love finding new, healthy recipes I can make at home, because I am not creative at all in the kitchen. This kale and apple soup looks like the perfect fall soup.

Health/Fitness Links to Get You Through the Day

Here’s my second weekly “links to get you through the day.” I know at some point you will take a break from work and want to peruse some interesting information ;) Here’s some great information I found this week:

  • How to Prevent Working Out From Becoming a Chore – Nia Shanks: Nia is a certified trainer and co-founder of Girls Gone Strong. She tells it to you like it is. In this post, she discusses what to do if you feel like your routine is becoming a chore. Hey, it’s okay, we’ve all been there! I’ve taken a full week off of the gym and running before just to reboot. Sometimes it’s necessary. She gives lots of other good tips as well.
  • Protein Powder Peanut Butter Balls: 1) this looks delicious 2)no-bake! Perfect.
  • Work Out While You Watch Modern Family: Love this! I love Modern Family, and I love that Fitbie.com has a workout for various TV shows. Instead of sitting on the couch for an hour, do some quick exercises while you watch, or even during commercial breaks.
  • Greatist Workout of the Day: One of the personal trainers I consistently follow is Tony Gentilcore. His blog posts always crack me up, and he is extremely knowledgeable. Therefore, I’m excited he is doing a workout series on Greatist. You pick how many days you want to work out, and he updates daily with new workout routines. Awesome! This will help when I have run out of ideas and need some inspiration. If you don’t know where to start, this is a great way to learn some exercises to do at the gym.
