Lucky Stars Designs Update!

I’ve mentioned my online Etsy shop on here before. It’s a venture my mom and I started in order to help the charity Manitos. Manitos helps children who have been diagnosed with cancer in our native country of Paraguay.

There is only one hospital there that specializes in cancer treatment, and sadly, many children can’t afford the care, and the hospital can’t provide basic things such as quality meals. Go to their website to learn more.

So any purchase you make within our Etsy shop, we give back 10%! The rest is used to buy more fabric and materials for our creations :)

I wanted to write a post today because we just added a new item!

It’s a boho-type bag that’s perfect for everyday use, and a good size for the gym as well. Your clothes and sneakers would definitely fit in here.

It has an outer pocket for your cell phone, water bottle, etc. as well.

An important thing to note is this is the only one available in this pattern. We make our bags exclusive so if you purchase something from us your item is one of a kind :) There are also 3 other pattern options you can choose from for this bag.

Please go to our Etsy link to read more about it!

And while you’re there, please shop around! We have duffel bags, overnight bags, running skirts, printables, makeup bags and more.

Thank you for supporting us and Manitos – we greatly appreciate it! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions at all.

What type of purse/bag is your favorite? I love tote bags for my work stuff (notebooks, laptops, etc).

Running Skirts & Race Shirt Pillows

These are both new things my mom and I have added to our Etsy shop! You can find a detailed background about why we started the shop, and our mission here.

In short, my mom and I started this shop with the goal of helping the charity, Manitos. Manitos aids children diagnosed with cancer in the South American country of Paraguay. There is only one pediatric cancer center in the country, and Manitos helps provide the simple things we sometimes take for granted, like bowls and silverware…and even meals, since they can only afford to feed the children once a day.

We decided to donate 10% of each sale back to Manitos. And since we are going to Paraguay this summer, we’d like to visit the hospital and see how else we can help.

So that’s a bit about Lucky Stars Designs! We have recently added a few new things to our shop. One of the items I’m excited for is running skirts! My mom and I made our own for the NYC Marathon and loved the attention they got :) Here’s an example of one:

Pink Running Skirt

The great thing is that you can pick your own elastic waistband, which is made of Lyrca. Here are the fabrics we have available:

Running Skirt

The skirt is made of a more flowy, leightweight, tulle material, so you don’t feel it at all while you’re running. You can find more information here, on our Etsy page!

We have also added in more pillows. How many race t-shirts do you have? Why not make them into a throw pillow to display on your couch or bed? You send us your shirts, and we will show you some fabrics that would match, then make it all into a pillow!

The pillow covers have zippers and come with inserts too. Here’s the Etsy link for the pillows :)

Please let us know what your thoughts and feedback are, as we are always looking to improve and add more to our store!

Have you worn a running skirt for a race? Or a costume of some sort?

Lucky Stars Designs Update

As I wrote about in December, my mom and I have been working hard to create tote bags and duffels for our Etsy shop. We wanted to create cute, patterned (and waterproof) bags as gym bags, because most are just plain colors…and who doesn’t want to have a nice bag for the gym ;)

We mainly created our store to help a charity close to our hearts – Manitos. Manitos aids children diagnosed with cancer in our native country of Paraguay. 10% of each purchase goes back to them, and we can’t wait to visit the hospital they are partnered with when we travel to Paraguay in July.

Since starting in December, we have actually added a few new & different types of items to our store, so I wanted to give you all an update!

We finally finished our first duffel bag, which is water resistant material inside and outside – which is perfect for gym clothes. I love the pattern and wish I could keep it for myself :)

And we decided to add a few new items. My mom has her own business already as an interior decorator. She creates custom draperies, pillows, covers and more for her clients, so she decided why not make pillows for Lucky Stars Designs? Here are 2 that are in our shop currently:

She also has made foam/cork boards for clients, so we decided to make one for the shop. It’s perfect for race memorabilia, or photos in general.

Lastly, I decided to start creating printables. I love quotes (as noted by my “Motivational Monday” posts), and my day-job is as a graphic/marketing designer, so I figured I’d work on some of those, while also increasing my portfolio ;) Here is one of my favorite quotes that is actually hanging in my own living room:

My mom and I have decided to use our skills (hers in interior design work and mine in graphic design) to be social entrepreneurs. Our main goal is to sell our wares so we can continue sending checks to Manitos. If you’re not interested in anything in our store, that’s totally okay! Perhaps consider making a donation directly to Manitos if you’d like.

You can shop through our entire store here.

I hope we can continue to grow and help where we can. I’m really excited for our trip to Paraguay and Brazil this summer…now time to start saving money!

What patterns are your favorite? I’m always open to ideas and requests! If you have a specific request, we can certainly work with you to create it.

Are you going anywhere this summer? What is your dream country you’d like to visit?
