My 2016 Goals

Hey everyone! I know I’ve been kind of MIA, but it was the holiday season and I just wanted to disconnect and enjoy being on break and with friends and family :)

So since I’ve been gone, I actually got a 1 month pass to a local spin studio (thanks to Dan!) so I have gone to 4 spin classes so far. They are so challenging! Here’s my pic from my first class, which was a 30 min. spin and 30 min. yoga class…my goal is to break 20 miles in a 45 min. class soon!

I plan on going most days (trying for every day if my schedule allows it) in order to add some cross training to my running, and also to try something new and hopefully lose some weight…

Let’s just say, the holiday season was a little less exercise and a little too much eating whatever I want…

But what can you do.

Which leads me into my 2016 goals. Weight loss is my number one from now through the next 3 months, and I plan on documenting it here.

Basically, after Chicago Marathon, I just have not been running much at all (ran 1-2x a week since October), but have not been watching my diet. I need to change that asap, especially as I begin my 5K training to hopefully PR in March or April. Furthermore, I want to lose weight to help my running/marathon training when that comes around in July. Did you know for every lb. overweight you are that is about one minute extra onto your marathon time? 

So here are my goals for this upcoming year:

  • Lose 15 lbs. How? I plan on adding back in strength training to my routine, and really monitoring what I eat. I really hate putting things into the My Fitness Pal app though…isn’t there an easier way? :-P
  • 5K PR in March or April. Hopefully break 25 minutes!
  • Half marathon PR and marathon PR in November (NYC Marathon)
  • Be able to do 5 unassisted pull-ups

That’s it for now. I know it is not much, but I like to focus on a handful of goals first instead of a list of 20 and then not accomplish any. My most immediate goal is to continue with spinning most mornings, and run/lift in the evenings. I think that will help me in my plateau. 

Why is it so easy to gain weight and so hard to lose? There are 2 things I currently feel are impossible: losing 15 pounds and qualifying for the Boston Marathon :)

  3. I’ve never done a spin class. I am not much for the cycling end of things. Something I should try to change, I guess.

    Sounds like your 2016 is off to a good start. Having a few goals is a great way to go, and you can build and adjust as needed!

  4. I am a spin instructor and notice the runner who show up as soon as it is too cold to be outdoors, Its a great workout for runner but you need to balance it with upper body work.

  6. I love spin classes and they are a great sub for speed work if you are injured! And NOTHING is impossible friend, you can totally do it. I actually like logging in MFP, it keeps me so much more accountable!

  7. I like spin but my most regular cross training is pure barre. I try to get to at least two classes a week. I don’t log my food anywhere, I just am really careful about what I buy. If I don’t buy it, I can’t eat it. :)

  8. I LOVE spinning! I try to do it at least once a week but have managed to sneak in 2x on occasion. I personal train a couple times a week as well so that’s been really helpful. I got a Fitbit for Christmas which is the best thing ever. I use that to track my food since I’m still on a weight loss hunt myself. I’m addicted to it!

  11. I love spin classes! I used to teach it a few years ago always a great workout. I also indulged a little too much and very glad to be back on my routine

  12. I love spin! but I don’t belong to a club. So the next best thing for me was to put my bike on a trainer. There’s a lot of YouTube videos with great workouts–it’s been pretty good so far.

  14. I’ve never been able to keep up with tracking on MFP…maybe just try eating the right things and going off of how you feel.

  16. I definitely need to get in more cross training this year. I love spin, but can never seem to find time to get over there.

    And I hear you on dropping a few pounds. I really slacked last year on watching what I eat.

  17. Great goals! Unofficially, mine are similar – lose 10lbs by LIFTING more, meal plan & log meals with Myfitnesspal, set a new 1/2 marathon PR in May, and hopefully a PR in a shorter distance race this fall. Here’s to a great 2016!!
