5 Tips For Running Hills (Video) & Happy National Running Day!

Hey, it’s National Running Day! Who plans on getting out there for a good run today?

So since it’s National Running Day I uploaded a new video to my YouTube channel sharing some tips for hill running…I mean who doesn’t love running hills? ;) 

Try these tips for running hills...throw some hill intervals into your training!

  1. I do like hill workouts. When they get really steep I tend to do a cross step move that I learned from Chi Running and it works well.

  5. I actually really love hills! I find that they push me and give me a mini goal to reach during runs/races and usually end up being the strongest parts of my runs :)

    • I agree! I actually prefer slightly hilly races as opposed to totally flat ones…so running chicago this fall (flat) will be interesting…lol

  6. I’m so not a fan of hills! My coach has me do a lot of exercises to fire the glutes; that seems to push me up hills. But it’s pretty flat here…

  7. I like running hills because it is so challenging. I incorporate them for my half marathon training and use them even more when I am cutting for a figure competition.

  8. When I first started running, I avoided hills like the plague. Now, I fully embrace them, and have seen how doing hill training has had a positive impact, especially come race day.

  9. Awesome tips! I live in the land of the flat, so I notice every hill in a race if I don’t make an effort to train on the hills in my schedule.
    I don’t always love them, but I do feel like a badass when I’m done my hill repeats.

  10. I tolerate hill workouts. I live in a very flat area, and so I really have to make an effort to hunt down the hills and make them happen. Sometimes, I’m not down with that LOL.

    • I’m so the opposite! I hate stair workouts. No joke, I go up a set of stairs and I am so winded.
      That’s weird it is not loading – are you able to see it through youtube’s site as opposed to on my blog page?

  16. Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately in Florida (near the beach) we don’t have any hills, but we do have bridges so I will have to save this for when I can start running again.
