Trying a Detox Cleanse

So over the weekend I decided to try out the Dr. Oz 3 day detox cleanse that my friend has done a few times. It consist of green smoothies for 4 meals a day, and is supposed to help detox and reset your body. I have been eating pretty bad lately, as I just lost motivation. My main meals have been ok, but it’s the snacking in between that has been bad for me. It’s my sweet tooth problem!

I figured, why not give it a shot. It’s only three days, and what I liked about this cleanse is that it includes things like almond butter, almond milk, flax seeds and coconut oil for you to get some protein and health fat in. You are also using LOADS of veggies in these smoothies, and a bit of fruit. I liked this as well because I’m not a fan of smoothies that are mainly fruit based, due to the high sugar content.

For example, here is what my lunch smoothie consisted of…which was HUGE btw so I’m (so far) not having issues with hunger:

  • 1 cucumber
  • kale
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • 1/2 cup pineapple
  • 1/2 an apple
  • almond milk
  • water
  • lime

Now that’s a green smoothie!

There is some controversy with green smoothies for detox but I’m not using this for weight loss. That is not my intention or goal. I am using this to reset my body, sugar levels, detox, etc. Once you finish a juice cleanse, you’re supposed to feel a lot better, and more motivated to eat nutritious, whole foods after 2-3 days of only eating such foods. Check out the link above to read more about what Dr. Oz has to say about his detox plan.

I believe doing something like this for 1-3 days is not a problem, as long as the right ingredients are being used, and as long as your sole purpose is not weight loss. You may lose weight, but most likely it will come back once you start eating normal foods again.

I actually used to be kind of wary of this, but after my friend did it a couple of times and really did feel the benefits, I figured I would try it! It may not be for everyone, so I’m not advocating everyone to try it, but it’s something I am experimenting with so we’ll see what happens! Plus, the smoothies have been actually delicious so far!

Have you ever tried a detox/cleanse? What did you think of it?
